Debate, Argument Mapping on paper

Oke.kita kali ini bakal bahas tentang basic  berdebat. Preference: JOVED, IVED, ISDC, NUEDC, etc.
Yang paling penting dalam debate adalah argument. Sebenarnya sih argument itu simple. Langsung aja kita ke TKP
ARGUMENT consisted of : Assertion, Reasoning, Evidence.
If you want to deliver  it well you should add Link Back. So it would be Assertion-Reasoning-Evidence-Link Back, or we usually call it “AREL”.
But before we go to Argument explanation session, let me introduce you to Team line. Team line is the main point of your team’s argument, or we can call it as sub-topic that we choose. Timeline must consist the keywords from the motion. Let’s see the practices;
THW not allow countries undertaking military intervention abroad to harvest natural resources while they are there.
Definition (simple) would be like this:
1.       Military intervention: Entry into a country of the armed forces of another country or international organization with the aim of protecting citizens from persecution or the violation of their human rights.
2.       Natural resources (NR), it’s a kind of crops, goods, etc. which is planted or farmed by locals
>>> Harvesting NR is an action that taking locals’ farm product. By the purpose to gain food or good supply for the forces itself.
3.       The proposal is run in term of intervention period itself.
The possible Team line:
1.       The harvesting is out of mission purpose,
2.       The harvesting is a violence,
3.       The harvesting would bring bad impact for both countries.
4.       The harvesting is a kind of indirect colonization, etc.
Pick one of the team line;
1.       The harvesting is out of mission purpose (lawful order).
>>Now let’s use AREL.
A: Those soldiers who harvested a locals’ NR should be punished.
R1: Punishment should be a kind of direct penalty in that place, which is not taking a time. It should be brought to the military trial after the mission accomplished.
R2: The harvesting is none sense with protecting citizen and balancing minorities’ and majorities’ right.
R3: The soldiers are appropriate to get the punishment because they disobey the order.
R4: It’s been stated that military should take a responsibility to what they’ve done. -> military trial is effective.
E: Uniform Code Military Justice
(a) "Any person subject to this chapter who--
(1) with intent to usurp or override lawful military authority, refuse, in concert with any other person, to obey orders or otherwise do his duty or creates any violence or disturbance is guilty of mutiny;
L: We believe by harvesting the NR from locals those soldiers should be punished because of disobedient for the order to run a mission.

A: Intervention is meant to be a help for locals not to disturb them.
R1: The Harvesting is a kind of disturbance for locals.
R2: The harvesting isn’t a help for local.
R3: The harvesting will only burden locals.
E: Cleared! Or you can just bring an analogy. (lazy dude,, hhehehe…)
L: *Try to make a link back by yourself J

If you got confused for that I got a simple one.
“THW Eliminate cigarette industry”
Team Line: eliminating a cigarette industry means save our generation
A: Cigarette Industry is a cause of “cancer generation”.
R1: Much people die by consuming cigarette, caused by lung cancer.
R2: Passive smokers also got that bad effect (lung cancer)
R3: Many teenagers consuming cigarette and shorten their life.
E: e.g. 3000 cigarette consumers (below 30 years old) die in every minutes.
L: because all of those thing it's a very best idea to close cigarette industry to make our better generation.

NOTE: DON’T STUCK with this theory. It might help you on preparation papers (case building) but not in your speech :)

tips: flip your paper into to side. one side for positive and the other is for negative.
